The Aphex 320D Compellor is a unique stereo audio level control designed to provide transparent operation. It is a must-have for broadcast pre-processing, but can also be used in public arenas where consistent level is needed, but also in recording studios and mastering applications.
The Aphex 320D Compellor combines several unique technologies to ensure a truly consistent level such as the Frequency Discriminate Leveler (FDL), Dynamic Verification Gate and Dynamic Recovery Computer which go beyond the usual paradigm of compression and gates.
The 320D uses a variable slope compressor which in combination with Dynamic verification Gate, Frequency Discriminate Leveler and dynamic recovery computer algorithms, provide adaptable compression that match textures of changing audio, avoiding any pumping artifacts.
The Source Gate is different from traditional gates, simply stopping the processor below the set threshold instead. This ensures that when the silences is detected, the leveler doesn’t try to compensate and increase the level. Finally the 320D has a peak limiter to control any offshoots occurring after level increase and a Stereo Enhance processor
Despite the complex operations happening under the hood, the Aphex 320D is extremely easy to use with only a handful of controls. Furthermore it can be set once and left to operate in the background without thinking about it.
The Compellor als boasts both analogue and digital I/O and can be used to convert the signal.
