Updating the original Pultec specs, the Bettermaker EQ 502P offers a choice of low shelf frequencies between, 20Hz, 30Hz, 60hz and 100Hz and high-shelf frequencies including 3kHz, 4kHz, 5kHz, 6kHz, 10kHz, 12kHz, and 16kHz. In addition the Bettermaker 502P features a high-cut filter offering a choice of 3 cut-off frequencies: 5kHz, 10kHz, 20kHz with a 6dB slope. The Bettermaker 502P uses two slots of your 500-series rack and features a pristine audio signal path.

Unlike most analogue EQ’s the Bettermaker EQ 502P is controlled digitally and features up 399 cells to store the presets making recalls extremely easy. In addition, the Bettermaker EQ 502P can be controlled directly from your DAW of choice thanks to its VST, AU or RTAS plug-in. Simply connect the Bettermaker EQ 502P to your computer via the USB port and set your EQ directly on screen. Once your session saved, the plug-in will recall the exact setting of your Bettermaker 502P next time you open the session.

What’s more, the Bettermaker EQ EQ 502P can be directly automated from inside your DAW offering a level of flexibility never achieved before with analogue equipment before. In addition the Bettermaker EQ 502P features a unique A/B control allowing you to quickly dial two different settings and easily compare between both.

Big and Clean Review by Marcelo Cyro (Posted on 06/09/2013)
Well, this thing is a pultec without valves. Sound very clean and big.
First I used it for tracking some musics for a film ( different cues with some styles of music). It is not a surgical eq, like the old pultec, but it is a never sound bad eq. In tracking drums sound really flexible, the low end is amazing, very very tight. I record a lot of styles of drums - the first one was rock with a lot of toms, It sounds BIG! After that we recorded some more jazzy things so I put the attetunuation around in 5k (yes 10DB of attenuation starting at 5k) with a optograph compressor and sounds amazing to have more intimate kind of jazz! I store everything in preset inside the hardware. The third cue was a heavy rock, so I recalled the first preset and Bang, here comes again that sound BIG! in one second, really fast signal flow. Just Great. I used extreme settings only to hear how it replies, and in extremes never sound harsh.
I fell in love with this eq! today I need to check a mix and I try to put it in the stereo bus! and now I can not leave it without. Again that clarity and Tight on the low end! I love the way that the attenuation and the boost is combined, I boost a lot of 60 on the Master bus because of a tiny mix , with a big bandwidth and tend a bit to be boomy so I thoght and the attenuation half the way, and don't touch! It clean all that boominess!
Like any other review, only to say something bad about it, i tend to prefer the bandwidth as a knob not a button
I really love this eq, it is really one of the best eq I ever heard to sound big and clean.
