The Bettermaker Stereo Passive Equalizer is a stereo Pultec-style EQ based on the original passive EQ combining a 100% analogue signal path with mastering-grade sound quality with the flexibility and precision of digital controls via a plugin.

The Bettermaker Stereo Passive Equalizer has adapted the circuit of the Pultec section of its original EQ232 mkII as a 2U standalone unit with additional features.

Analogue Audio Path

The Pultec-style EQ uses passive filters and solid-state amplification. Originally found on the highly regarded EQ232 mkII circuitry, it consists of two bands Low and High with separate curves and controls for boosting and cutting, recreating the unmistakable “Pultec” sound.

The Low band includes separate boost and cut controls sharing frequency controls creating a resonant shelf curve, offering a big yet tight low-end. The high band includes separate controls and frequency points for the boost and cut. The HF boost section offers a choice of ten frequency points including two new “Air” bands (20kHz. 28kHz) while the Hi-Cut section offers the traditional 5, 10, 20kHz frequencies. The combination of the HF Boost and HF Cut creates a very open and airy sound that never sounds harsh.

Digital Controls

The Stereo Passive Equaliser includes the same patented digital control found on the rest of the range allowing a plug-in in the session to control the settings of the EQ, ideal for saving settings in your session as well as for automation.

It is powered by a high-speed 32-bit microcontroller with dedicated firmware programmed into it. the USB connection ensures communication between the plugin (AAX, AU, VST) and the unit and serves to upgrade firmware. The microcontroller also watches over the user interface and manages presets, measurements and more.
