The Dramastic Audio Obsidian was released in 2005 by USA based designer John Ellis, and since 2009 KMR Audio have been supplying and recommending these wonderful compressors to many producers, engineers and mixers.

Their hand built quality and sound is second to none! Dramastic Audio have their take on a traditional 'SSL' style bus compressor but included a custom made VU, Elma switches, VCA's from THAT Corp, gold plated Neutrik connections and four Jensen Transformers (two on the input and two on the output) that have been hand selected for the custom Obsidian's TXIO Circuit.

These transfomers provide stunning weight when required (extended by the make-up gain) and the stereo imaging is unbelievable. Rather than thinking of it as 'another SSL Clone' - it has a nod towards the weight of a 33609 and the punch of a SSL 4000 but yet can sound smooth as silk when the AUTO release time is employed, or add as much aggression you need with the Lo-Fi mode.

The Obsidian 500 modules provide two versions for the 500-Series, a Stereo Compressor and a Dual Mono Expansion both with selectable High Pass Filter Settings.
