iLok is an anti-piracy system run by US-based PACE Anti-Piracy that is favoured by many software developers. iLok License Manager is the company’s license management client, created to help users easily and speedily organise the software licenses in their iLok.com account, while iLok itself is a special USB key that holds the licenses for iLok-enabled software. Such software looks for the attached iLok each time it is run to provide secure protection. Benefits include users being able to authorise software anywhere it is installed — be that at home, work, or at a remote location. In other words, users can keep their software licenses with them and not on their computer. Speaking of computers, iLok is cross-compatible, so both Mac- and Windows-enable software licenses can be stored on a single iLok. Up to 500 licenses can be stored on a (second-generation) iLok.
