Roland

The big three Japanese manufacturers have been responsible for some of the greatest innovations in modern electronic instruments.

Probably the most creative and widely regarded manufacturer is Roland. Founded in 1972 by Ikutaro kakehashi Roland have always been on the forefront of development and are known worldwide for their legendary Analogue synths, drum machines and bass synthesizers.

The Jupiter 8, Juno 106, TB-303, TR-808, TR-909, SH-101, TR-606, JX-3P and AIRA, these are all names that every single music fan will be familiar with. Roland have always had a certain way of releasing the right product just at the right time.

Synthesizers like the Jupiter 8 from 1981 was Roland's first programmable analogue polysynth, it boasted a huge sound and a massive array of synthesis options. Jupiter 8 was the first mega synth from Roland that put them amongst the big players at the time.

In the very same year, Roland released the TB-303. A simplistic monophonic analogue bass synthesizer that used a modified Moog Ladder Filter. Originally conceived as a replacement to the bassist, the TB-303 eventually found its way into the hands of Techno and ACID producers and essential defined dance music for decades to come.

Modern music just wouldn't be the same without the TR-808 and TR-909, these transistor based analogue drum machines came out at an affordable price point and with enough features to keep everyone from top tier pop producers to hiphop beat makers busy.

The cultural impact that Roland have had on modern music is incredibly understated in the mass media, it's thank to them mostly that modern dance music even exists at all.

We advertise and stock much of the Roland range, with a specialist focus on synthesizers and Eurorack Modules.
