The Gyraf Audio G14-S is a passive stereo Equaliser with 5 parallel bands and a choice of Tube/passive or solid-state makeup gain and interfacing topologies.
The Gyraf Audio G14-S boasts five parallel bands each with a selection of 11 frequencies, continuous variable Q and a choice of boost, cut or bypass modes. The Q's sharpness differs when boosted or cut, with broad Q at boost and higher at cut, almost verging on the notch at the highest cut setting.
Special attention has been brought to the choice of frequencies especially in the mid-range which includes a wide frequency overlap between each band.
The Gyraf G14-S uses a truly passive design with inductors and capacitors being switched in or out of the circuit and each passive filter set is matched with input and output interfacing before reaching the gain stage to compensate for the approximate loss of 20dB in the filters.
In the original G14, the gain state was achieved using 6H23n tubes combined with transformer balanced input and outputs giving it a rich tone. The G14-S has kept the original design and added a separate path using a high-grade op-amp with integrated balanced receivers on the input and a state-of-the-art active servo balancing circuit on the output. This offers a cleaner tighter sound. Each mode is easily accessed via a three-position switch giving the choice between In (Valves and transformers), Bypass (No EQ) and S (Op-amp).
