KMR Artist Spotlight: Bitter Ruin

Bitter Ruin are a duo based in lovely Brighton writing and performing an eclectic brand of folk music  appropriately dubbed “Contemporary Expressionism” with a hint towards cabaret influences as well as indie and soul music.

Bitter Ruin

Bitter Ruin started in 2007 and has since supported many major acts including The Dresden Dolls, a perfect fit for their penchant for “music noire”, as well as Ben Folds and Auf Der Maur. Their first album “Hung, Drawn, and Quartered” was recorded in the United States with producer Jason Rubal.

For their second full-length album, Bitter Ruin decided to take matters into their own hands.  They decided to build a “professional” home studio which, at first, might seem like an oxymoron but actually makes a lot of sense when you listen to their music. Their intimate music will always be served best by a comfortable setting in which they will be able to let their creativity free far from the constraints often associated with working in a big studio.

To achieve that goal Bitter Ruin are turning to crowd funding site Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/678193853/bitter-ruin-build-studio-and-make-music ) as a platform to get funding from their fans, generous sponsors or simply music lovers who may want to get involved in an exciting project. They are also giving some great rewards in return for people backing them, so you will see something back from your investment.

As previously mentioned, part of the funds are dedicated to build a really good quality home studio to record their songs.  When Bitter Ruin turned to KMR to find the best equipment, our lovely Stefan was at hand to discuss the various options including microphones, monitors, acoustic treatment, and recording interface.

We’re really happy to support Bitter Ruin in their endeavour and wish them the best of luck in achieving their goal. If you want to find out more about Bitter Ruin or get involved check the following links:
