Unlike their first foray into the the construction of studio monitors which included single drivers, the newly announced monitors will have 2-way designs for the LA7 and 3-way designs for the Mixtower and Abbeys (that’s how they’re called).
Information is scarce for the moment but here is what we already know:
The Avantone Pro LA7 or Little Abbey 7 are a two-way active studio monitors using proprietary woofer and folded ribbon tweeter.
The Avantone MixTower uses the same proprietary tweeter and woofer as the LA7 but features a third driver taken directly from the MixCube which can be switched to work on its own giving you the reference quality of the original design.  Switching between MixCube mode and three-way mode will be done via an included footswitch so that you won’t need to fiddle at the back of the monitor each time you want to change your monitoring mode. This will appeal to many producers and engineers as another alternative to their trusted monitors offering not one but two additional voicing to their setup.
Finally the Avantone Abbey are another 3-way design but also include a subwoofer on the side of the cabinet for an extended frequency response. This design has been particularly successful on designs by Barefoot and to some extent Focal and is sure to peak the curiosity of many engineers and producers.
The only other information that we have is that like the MixCube, these monitors will be available in cream or black and at an incredible price. Stay Tuned for more info…
