The Ocean Audio Signature Three is a dual-channel, inductor-based 4-band EQ designed by Malcolm Toft
The Ocean Audio Signature Three uses a fully discrete design instead of op-amps to provide a much cleaner signal path and increased headroom. Another reason for using a discrete design is that inductors add a distinctive “peaking” character to the sound. Each band uses its own inductor to provide a much tighter control and each component has been carefully selected for ultimate musicality.
Each band offers a choice of six carefully selected frequencies and a continuously variable 15dB of cut or boost. A centre detent allows for instant return to the neutral position.
Another advantage of using transistors on each band is the ability to handle high levels with very low level of distortion and as such, the Signature Three is capable of providing levels exceeding +28dBm. To avoid unnecessary clipping, a large LED has been provided to indicate when the signal output exceeds +15dBm. Using Silicon transistors also ensures extremely low noise specifications and superior frequency response with noise falling below -85dBm between 20Hz-20kHz in bypass mode, and -80dBm with all gain controls in their central position.
Each component has also been closely matched to provide an accurate stereo representation making it ideal for mix buss or mastering application. A true bypass is also employed to ensure best signal to noise ratio and minimum electronic circuitry in the signal path.
