Synthesizers

Synthesizers

Synthesizers are the cornerstone of modern music production and sound design; the idea of taking a simple oscillator tone and modifying it with modulation, filters, amplifiers and other effects has been around since the 1950’s when Bob Moog and Don Buchla first started tinkering with voltages.

Nowadays we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to the breadth and functionality on offer, there's a vast array of analogue, modular, digital and DSP based synthesizers on the market and a slew of constant innovation and creativity bringing fresh, new ideas and concepts. Plus there's something new every day in the bustling Eurorack world.

Performance synths from the likes of Elektron, Korg, Arturia, MFB, Moog, Twisted Electrons, Bastl Instruments and Teenage Engineering focus on providing onboard sequencing with a universal clocking medium to make live performance easier. Since live improvisation has become quite popular, this way of working has become even more pertinent, making for powerful, portable setups for making music on the go.

An offshoot of synths and sound design are drum machines and just like the synth market, there's plenty on offer from the likes of AKAI with the new MPC range, Arturia, MFB, Elektron, Acidlab, Vermona and Cyclone Analogic. We have a wide variety of drum machines both in store and online.

Here at KMR we specialize in the weird and wonderful, we aim to bring you the very best synthesizers and sound design tools from around the world. We have a dedicated synthesizer specialist called Tom, plus a well equipped demo area in house to show off some of the latest synths we've got, so if you're lost or need some help or information, then give us a call or read some of our online articles, for example:
