The Unity Audio Boulder MkII is a near-field/mid-field, three-way active studio monitor designed with a closed cabinet to deliver a detailed and accurate sound with superior transient reproduction.
The Boulder features two unique 8” SEAS woofers each containing a 0.2” aluminium foil bonded chemically to a rigid pulp fibre cone. This method offers much reduced harmonic anomalies with a much greater excursion range leading to superior reproduction of the low frequencies. The use of aluminium ensures a constant and perfect symmetry of the cone ensuring a superior longevity and consistency not found in other materials.
The Boulder also features a unique dual co-axial Midrange and Tweeter which offer a much improved sound dispersion, much tighter response and more power. This new design includes a unique flat aluminium honeycomb midrange ring and in its centre a folded ribbon tweeter. This unique design is capable of accurately reproducing sounds ranging from 450Hz all the way up to 50kHz.
For the amplifier Unity Audio has partnered with Tim de Paravicini from Esoteric Audio Research who has come up with a modular amplifier, the same one found in Unity Audio The Rock monitors. This time however and to ensure more power, Unity Audio an Tim de Paravicini have included no less than 4 amplification modules, one for each woofer, for the midrange ring and one for the tweeter. The amp modules use true-discrete bi polar low feedback amplifier design with custom wound transformers. The result is a very fast and clean amplification system with impressively accurate reproduction.
