The Zähl EQ1 is a 500-series EQ module ported from the superb Zähl AM1 Analogue Mixing Console.
The Zähl EQ1 is a dual slot 4-band parametric equalizer using a mixture of proven design with very useful improvements. First of all both Low and High Frequencies offering a choice between Bell and Shelf modes while both Low Mids and High Mid bands can be activated to work in the low and high frequency range at the switch of a button. The difference however lies in the fact that both Mid frequency range use different circuit technology offering different sound character from the Low and High bands offering a wide range of tonal options. Each band is individually activated via an On/Off switch allowing you for quick reference but also to minimise noise and preserve the signal integrity as much as possible.
The EQ1 features a EQ Gain switch letting you set the resolution of the EQ between 5dB for mastering application or subtle improvements or 15dB for heavy mixing and tone shaping requirements. This also ensures easier restoration of the gain settings for each band making it easier for recalls.
The Zähl EQ1 is extremely musical and built to the highest standard with no microprocessor, no clock pulses. It uses a unique power stabilisation avoiding switched power circuitry and is fully compatible with the 500-Series format.

- superb & versatile EQ Review by Chris (Posted on 27/11/2015)
this module changed my whole perspective on 500 series kit. I used to think of 500 modules as being useful but not as good as their 19" rack brothers. The Zahl EQ1 turned that around. The dual slot stereo design is a joy to work with, beautifully made and with a solid feel it incorporates a number of unique features on a compact front panel which never feels cluttered. It feels pretty much like a console channel EQ [which is exactly what it is]
Each band has its own on/off button [which does not crackle when engaged] - the master bypass is also nice and smooth with no switch noise. In addition, there is an output gain pot which can be switched pre/post the EQ to create more headroom for the eq circuit and to allow proper level-matched A/Bing.
sonically, it has a clean but solid character. The bass bands can bring a lot of weight and power to kick & bass. initially, I used the Zahl as a 'channel EQ' but have also found that it makes a superb mix buss EQ. The design of the pots makes it easy to recall too.
The LMID & HMID bands have super-fine Q controls for precise notching of resonances [with none of that smeary nonsense you'll get from a plugin]. its a great box capable of radical sonic-sculpting.
£1,100 ex VAT UK for a stereo EQ of this quality is an absolute bargain - highly recommended.
